Thyroid cancer is a
malignancy arising from the tissues of the
thyroid gland that generates thyroid hormone, which regulates the body's metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure, and body
temperature. Incidence of Thyroid
cancer is steadily increasing worldwide. .
Key risk factors for Thyroid cancer include radiation exposure, Family history of Thyroid
Cancer. Being female increases your risk compared to males, and
factors like obesity, a history of benign thyroid conditions and potential
exposure to environmental pollutants are also associated with an
increased risk.
Types of Thyroid Cancer:
Papillary thyroid
cancer
is the most common type. These cancers tend to grow very slowly. They sometimes
spread to the lymph nodes in the neck they can often be treated successfully and
has good prognosis.
Follicular thyroid cancer is the next most common type; The prognosis
for follicular cancer is not quite as good as that of papillary cancer,
although it is still very good in most cases.
Medullary
thyroid cancer accounts for less
than 5% of all thyroid cancers. It can be harder to find and treat.
Sometimes it can spread to the lymph nodes, lungs, or liver before a thyroid
nodule is even discovered. Most often it runs in families and
is due to genetic mutation.
Anaplastic
thyroid cancer is rare. It makes up about 2% of all thyroid cancers. It is most advanced and aggressive. Generally
does not respond to treatment, thus has bad prognosis

of thyroid cancer can be subtle in early stages, but when it
shows up it can cause lump or mass in neck, Pain in neck, jaw or ear ,difficulty
in swallowing, difficulty in breathing, Persistent cough, hoarseness of voice

of Thyroid cancer include- Physical examination; Ultrasound, CT

therapeutic monitoring of Thyroid cancer.
Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology
(FNAC), Thyroid Biopsy is done to confirm if the Thyroid Nodule is Cancerous.

risk factors. Perform Self-Examination to

lifestyle, a balanced diet, staying physically active, and managing stress are
key preventive measures.
