October the Breast Cancer Awareness Month No-one should face breast cancer alone

One in eight women gets diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in a year. Though, death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, due to better rate of screening, self-examination, leading to early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options.

 WHAT IS BREAST CANCER?
Breast cancer is when breast cells mutate and become cancerous cells that multiply and form tumors, leading to invasion of adjacent tissues & distant organs.

METASTATIC CONDITION OF BREAST CANCER:-

When breast cancer is limited to the breast and/or nearby lymph node regions, it is called early stage or locally advanced. When breast cancer spreads to an area farther from where it started to another part of the body, doctors say that the cancer has “metastasized.” They call the area of spread a “metastasis,” or use the plural of “metastases” if the cancer has spread to more than one area. The disease is called Metastatic Breast Cancer. Another name for metastatic breast cancer is "stage IV breast cancer” if it has already spread beyond the breast to other organ and nearby lymph nodes at the time of diagnosis of the original cancer. Common sites of Metastasis are:-

  • Lymph Nodes

  • Bone

  • Lungs

  • Brain

  • Liver

PREVENTION BY SCREENING: -

Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam every 3 years. After age 40, women should have a breast exam every year. Mortality rates have gone down since 1990s. Evaluation of risk factor & watching out for alarming signs might help us in achieving our target.

  • A breast self-exam is a check-up a woman does at home.

  • The best time to do a self-breast exam is about 3 - 5 days after your period starts If you have gone through menopause, do your exam on the same day every month

  • Look at your breasts directly and in the mirror. Look for changes in skin texture, such as dimpling, puckering, indentations, or skin that looks like an orange peel, nipple discharge.

  • Also note the shape and outline of each breast.

  • Check to see if the nipple turns inward.

Treatment for Breast Cancer

At the D.S. Research Centre, a unique approach is applied through Ancient Ayurveda-based Nutrient Energy Therapy (NET). This holistic treatment method is integrated into conventional treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to offer comprehensive care.

Nutrient Energy Therapy focuses on harnessing the body’s natural healing processes, promoting recovery, and improving the overall quality of life for patients, even in advanced stages of the disease.
