Kidney or Renal Cancer

Kidney Cancer is also called CA Kidney or Renal Cell Carcinoma i.e. RCC. It is one of the 10 most prevailing cancer in the present time.

Food habits, lifestyle hazards, treatment side effects, pollution and environmental factors increase the risk of CA Kidney.

For Kidney Cancer Awareness, we must have the basic ideas of CA Kidney, about its causes, risk factors, symptoms and prevention tips.




How it starts?

The function of kidney in our body is excretion by filtering our blood. It is basically composed of nephrons which are again made up of Glomerulus and Tubules. For the most part, CA Kidney begins in the lining of tubules.

What are the varieties?

-Clear cell carcinoma and Non-clear cell carcinoma are the broad varieties of Renal Cell carcinoma

-Transitional cell carcinoma or urothelial carcinoma

-Wilms tumour or nephroblastoma

-Renal Sarcoma

To know about risk factors is a must for its prevention

Like many other cancer, there is no definite causative factor for CA Kidney. However the risk factors can be categorised as-

-Addiction for any form of tobacco

-Being overweight mostly with abdominal obesity

-Chronic use of analgesics, steroids or certain antibiotics

-Genetic predisposition with positive family history

-Exposure to certain environmental chemicals like certain herbicides, asbestos etc. for a prolonged period.

-Patients on prolonged dialysis

-Uncontrolled high blood pressure and chronic uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.

Its presentation in patient’s body

Symptoms are rarely observed in the earlier stages, majority are late stage presentations, which mostly include-

-Haematuria, i.e. Blood mixed urine

-A visible lump or swelling

- Pain abdomen

-Swelling, mostly facial puffiness due to inadequately functioning kidneys

-Abnormalities in renal function test

-Extreme tiredness

Preventive measures

Simply to avoid the risk factors

-Accept the methods available in alternative system of medicine to avoid strong pain killing medications

-Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle with regular exercises

-To control high blood pressure and diabetes at the earliest to prevent complications

-Minimal exposure to environmental chemicals.

-Avoid nephrotoxic drugs and habitual use of antibiotics

-Sufficient amount of water intake on daily basis and proper evacuation of urine.

-To avoid prevent recurrent UTI
