Tell Me How I Can Help”: What You Can Do for World Cancer Day

February 4, World Cancer Day is a Global initiative to fight cancer and to increase awareness of Cancer world wide..

“How can I help”-As a Doctor, I want to ensure that the best care possible is given to Cancer patients and I want our patients to know that we are with them in their fight against Cancer. Will help patients to cope and manage the Physical, Mental, and Emotional changes they are going through. At the same time patient should also feel free to express their concerns. Good communication plays a key role in getting the care that is best for them. Patients should never hold back any information from their Doctor.

It’s a day when Health Care professionals can help raise Cancer awareness and educate others about cancer prevention and screening. Also, provide tips on a healthy lifestyle and follow up care after treatment ends.

Just as much as a Doctor has a role to play in a Cancer Patient’s care. The spouse, Family

members, Friends, Neighbours have a role to play. Many times, Even though you want to help, it can be hard to know what to say or do. Remember often little things mean the most. Whenever possible, offer to help patients shop for Groceries, Take care of Children, Prepare meals, etc. Think about little things the patient enjoys and that makes life ‘normal’ for them. Friendship and regular activity continuing after a cancer diagnosis is a great way to further help the healing process. Letting them talk and vent out their frustration or expressing their concern may also be comforting.

Get involved in whatever way you can to reduce the burden of Cancer because together we can bring the Change. One can also contribute by making choices to stay healthy, Stay away from Tobacco, Stop or Limit the amount of alcohol intake. Eat lots of Fruits and Vegetables; Keep a healthy weight, Get a Cancer Screening test that is right for you. Cancer screening may find Breast Cervical, Colorectal Cancers Early.

As parents get their children vaccinated for HPV, which can prevent many Cancers later in life. Make sure your child eats right and stays active.

Taking small step-You can help create a future free of Cancer for Yourself, Your Family, and your Community.
